The Best Fabric Shavers: Australian Guide

Nothing is more annoying than wearing a jumper a couple of times only to see small little pills developing. A fabric shaver (or clothes pill remover) is a nifty little device that will make your clothes and other fabrics look like new again and save them from lint, fuzz and pill balls.

The Best Fabric Shavers

I tested a number of different fabric shavers that are currently available in Australia and found these were the ones that worked best:

Philips Fabric Shaver – My Pick

Philips Fabric Shaver

The Philips Fabric Shaver is an effective and quick pill removal tool. It comes with a 3 different size holes for various sizes of pill and you also adjust the height of the shaver to protect more delicate garments.

The Philips fabric shaver is powered by AA batteries as opposed to a built in rechargeable battery. Although I’ve found the battery life to not be an issue. The Philips Fabric shaver does include 2 batteries in the package.

Overall I think this is the best fabric shaver you can buy in Australia. It’s not that expensive, works really well

WiredLux Fabric Shaver – Upgrade Pick

WiredLux Fabric Shaver

While I use and love the Philips Fabric Shaver if you’re after a device that has a few more features I recommend the WiredLux Fabric Shaver.

It has a built in rechargeable lithium battery so you don’t need to worry about replacing the batteries. It also has a 3-in-1 mesh design like the Philips option. It does have 3 different speed modes although I found I didn’t need to change the speed to get good results.

If you’re after a fabric shaver that has an inbuilt battery I’d go with this option.

Gleener Fabric Shaver – Manual Option

Gleener Manual fabric shaver and lint ball remover

The Gleener Fabric Shaver is a manual pill and lint ball remover. If you’re after the simplest device this is it. It requires no electricity or batteries, you just pass it across the fabric. It doesn’t work quite as well as the electric fabric shavers that I tested.

It does have a built in lint brush, although I didn’t find this works as well as a sticky pet hair remover which is my goto device for getting rid of lint balls.

How I Tested the Fabric Shavers

I tested these fabric shavers on a combination of fabrics including a knit jumper, jersey style jumper, cotton sheets and mix blend cushion covers. All of these were suffering for pilling. The electric fabric shavers were definitely easier to use and worked like magic. The manual Gleener required a little more effort but also produced similar results. With all these fabrics I made sure the material was pulled taught and I applied only the lightest of pressures to make sure I didn’t damage or knick the fabric.
