Roborock S8: Australian Guide

Roborock announced a new robot vacuum during CES2023. The Roborock S8 has a new redesigned dock and an improved brush system. But is it worth upgrading? Here’s my guide:

Is it Worth Upgrading? What’s New

The Roborock S7 Ultra is the best robot vacuum. It has some of the best cleaning performance combined with excellent Lidar based navigation. The S7 added a camera for even better navigation. It can avoid obstacles like cords, clothes, shoes and of course dog poo!

The S7 series also had a docking station for fully automated cleaning. The docking station can empty and refill the mop and empty the vacuum.

What’s New in the Roborock S8

The Roborock S8 has a new roller design. It comes with two duel roller brushes. The new design is meant to eliminate tangles from hair. The rubber rollers will also increase the already class leading suction of the Roborock.

The mop pad can now rise up when it detects carpets. This means it’s possible for the S8 to both mop and vacuum in the one run. The brushes can also lift up when mopping.

The new S8 dock has a more pleasing and less bulky design than the S7 series. The dock has a heated drying function. After cleaning the mopping pad, the dock will dry the pad using hot air. This should help prevent mould and make sure the mopping pad stays clean and dry between uses.

Is it worth upgrading?

If you have the Roborock S7 I wouldn’t be running out to buy the new S8. While I like the new brush design and vibrating mop will definitely improve performance, the S7 already does a great job.

If you have an earlier version of the Roborock like the S6 the newer series offer some pretty notable improvements. The AI detection system means you can run the robot vacuum even if there are obstacles like cords and clothes lying on the floor. And if you add the dock you can have a truly automatic cleaning experience.

How much does the Roborock S8 Cost in Australia
