Mould can be quite difficult to get rid of. While there are many great commercial mould removers, did you know that you can also use Clove Oil as a natural alternative? Here’s how to use clove oil for mould removal.
Why Clove Oil?
Clove Oil has anti-fungal and antimicrobial properties which can help prevent mould and also kill off mould spores. However it should be worth noting that clove oil is not as effective as commercial mould removers.
Using Clove Oil For Mould Removal
To use Clove Oil for mould removal you can make up a simple solution using water a small amount of clove oil:
- Mix together 1/4 Teaspoon of Clove Oil with 1 litre of water in a spray bottle.
- Spray Solution over the surface you’re looking to treat and leave for 20 minutes
- Use a microfibre cloth to wipe down the surface
The best way to prevent mould growing on hard surfaces is to make sure they are kept dry in between use. Making sure there is proper ventilation and wiping down wet surfaces will be more effective than using clove oil to treat mould. Using something as simple as a squeegee to wipe down a shower after use will go a long way towards eliminating mould. If you have condensation on windows you can use a Window Vac to remove it and help prevent mould.
Limitations of Clove Oil for Mould Removal
While clove oil can help inhibit mould growth, it might not be effective in removing deep-rooted or extensive mould infestations. If you have a bad mould problem your best solution will always be treating the cause of the mould and using a professional mould removal service.
How I use Clove Oil to Help with Mould
I believe that Clove Oil is best to help prevent the growth of mould rather than as a way to remove large amounts of mould.
I’ve found that using a Clove Oil spray has helped inhibit mould growth and was nowhere near as effective as a commercial mould remover at getting rid of existing mould.
