Do You Need to Wash the Roborock Filter?

Roborock makes some of the best robot vacuum cleaners. I currently use the Roborock S6 Pure, and have found it to be excellent. Like all Robot Vacuums, the Roborock has a filter that needs to be cleaned. But do you need to rinse or wash the Roborock filter? Here’s what I’ve found works best:

Do you need to rinse the Roborock Filter?

Roborock recommends you rinse the filter with water to clean it. But I’ve found this isn’t the most efficient way to clean it, and the filters don’t last as long when you do. What I find happens is the fine dust particles turn into a sort of gunk and get trapped in the filter when you run it under water – no matter how long you rinse it for.

Once you’ve rinsed the filter you then need to make sure it’s completely dry. Depending on where you live this could take days. I just don’t think washing the filter makes any sense.

The Best Way to Clean a Roborock Filter?

I think there are two easy ways to clean a Roborock filter that actually work:

  1. Compressed Air
  2. Use another Vacuum

Compressed Air

I find that you can blow the dust off the Roborock filter using a can of compressed air. It’s really effective and doesn’t clog the filter like rinsing does.

Vacuum Cleaner

For quickly cleaning the filter whenever I empty the dustbin I like to just use the nozzle attachment on my vacuum. It doesn’t get as much of the dust out as compressed air, but it still cleans most of it.

If you are planning on rinsing out the filter, It’s best to clean it first using compressed air or a vacuum to get most of the dust off. That way you won’t wash more dirt into the filter where it gets clogged.

Roborock Blocked Strainer Error

If you come across the “Blocked Strainer” error on your Roborock, it’s related to the filter. If you’ve already rinsed the filter you may need to try rinsing it out again and leaving it to dry. But I’ve found this doesn’t really work. Your best bet is to just replace the existing filter with a new one.

It’s a good idea to replace your Roborock filter every 6 months to a year. It’s a hepa filter and helps keep the air you breathe clean.

If you clean the filter using compressed air I find it completely eliminates the blocked strainer errors.
