Bissell SpotClean Review: Does it Work?

Cleaning up stains and spills can be a real headache, especially when they happen on carpets, rugs, or upholstery. I’ve been testing out the the Bissell Spotclean, a portable carpet cleaner designed to clean stains from soft surfaces. But does the Bissell Spot Clean actually work? And Does it remove stains?

Bissell Spotclean

What is the Bissell SpotClean?

The Bissell SpotClean is a portable carpet cleaner. The cleaner works by using a combination of water, suction and Bissell cleaning solution to lift stains from most carpets and other fabric surfaces. The dirty water is sucked up into a seperate tank, so only clean water is used while cleaning.

The Bissell SpotClean includes a sample of the Bissell cleaning formula. You can also easily buy this online.

Does the Bissell SpotClean Remove Stains?

I tested the Bissell SpotClean on an olive oil stain on my fabric couch. This stain was recent – so if you have dried on stains the results may differ. The Bissell SpotClean was able to effectively remove the stain from my couch.

Bissell claims that the SpotClean can remove most stains including pet and coffee stains.

What You Should Know

It Doesn’t Leave Surfaces Completely Dry

Like pretty much every carpet cleaner, the Bissell SpotClean will not leave your carpets dry after cleaning. They will still be damp. I’ve found it’s best to use this when the weather is warmer as this will dry the carpets faster. It does suck up most of the water, but the surface will still be damp.

Make sure you use a number of drying strokes (without pressing down the trigger) to suck up as much water as possible.

It Might Leave “Cleaner” Areas

If you’re cleaning a spot on your couch or carpet, that area may appear “cleaner” than the rest of the surface. I found this was the case with my couch. So I actually end up going over the entire couch and this effectively cleaned the entire surface.

What I recommend is doing a tiny spot test somewhere not very visible to see how the fabric will look after cleaning. Just remember that straight after cleaning the fabric/carpet will be wet and will most likely dry down to a more even finish.

Check to make sure the fabric tag doesn’t say “Dry Clean Only”. This is a wet cleaning device.

The Hose Isn’t Super Long

One con of the Bissell SpotClean is the hose isn’t that long and if you’re cleaning a larger area you’ll need to move the main unit around. The unit has been designed to sit on a step and it’s not that heavy, even when full with water.

My Bissell SpotClean Review?

I like it! While this isn’t the right tool for cleaning all your carpets, it’s perfect for cleaning up stains and spots. If you have pets, this is going to be life saver. It does a much better job than simply blotting up the mess with some paper towel.

This works well as a cleaner for fabric couches and it’s small enough to use in hard to reach places like stairs. Overall I think the Bissell SpotCleaner is one of the best portable carpet cleaners available in Australia and I’m going to continue using mine.
